“Words from the Several States” The Movement, part 012

I was going to consult with Scott the FRN editor-in-chief, before I started this movement writing. I may still, but as of this second, I am a pen unleashed, a keyboard untamed, a political mind over-flowing to, I dare say, absorb the better grace of any editor's tongue.

I am a political consultant/journalist/author pushed beyond the gates of reason . . .

Hold on America, this column is now entering hyper-space.

That reflective mood I was in is gone. Now I just feel a certain vagueness towards the American body-politic.

The ray of light:

On one side I see a small awakening in working/middle class America, as they head off to town halls and give our federal legislators hell, for even considering socialized health care. Almost all the surveys show 75% of Americans are against this un-Constitutional government power grab of our rights and wallets, under the guise of national health care.

It is a small ray of light, that both humbles and gives me optimism that maybe, if we all work hard for the next 40 years, we can reclaim this nation. We may even replace the entire power establishment with good honest people, in all high offices of power and trust. The ray of light, that shines bright from the tea parties, makes me hopeful that they will be a force magnitude of 100 soon enough.

The Pits:

Then I slide back into my personal political reality, where I analyze every feasible angle, every news cycle and every back-room deal going down. And Brother! There are a lot of back room deals these days.

I don't like “the pits”, I see a president now seeking to have the sole authority to shut down parts of the Internet, in the name of cyber-security. This new proposal (S. 773 Cyber-Security Act of 2009) should leave every American stunned and in shock. It should then lead you to a phone, keyboard, type-writer or blackberry; to notify your Congressional delegation that they better not tread on the first amendment. In fact here is the opening language. It is the Phrase “and for other purposes” that scares me, because we know exactly how that can be abused. The very worst of all legislation is filled with these open ended phrases.

S. 773 Cyber Security Act 2009

To ensure the continued free flow of commerce within the United States and with its global trading partners through secure cyber communications, to provide for the continued development and exploitation of the Internet and intranet communications for such purposes, to provide for the development of a cadre of information technology specialists to improve and maintain effective cyber security defenses against disruption, and for other purposes.

This “let us do it for you” elitist mindset, that one person can mange a crisis or attack, no individual rights will be violated, and the cyber-hackers will be brought to justice.

For me personally, I always thought the best way to stop cyber-terrorists/hackers, was to hunt them down, capture them for trial, or eliminate them if they resist.

But hey, thats just me making a pointed decision, instead of a president who will take away just a few more rights and ask you to thank him for it.

What I am trying to say, is everyone in America who has an e-mail address, needs to e-mail their elected federal officials and tell them where to shove this proposed bill.

If this bill even gets voted out of committee, everyone on that committee should be thrown out of office.

I'd also like to point out that even proposing this bill, the sitting president is violating three different areas of the Constitution.

I wonder if the collective brain-trust of the main-stream mush media could name those three areas for me. I'll buy three rounds for the first main-stream anchor who knows the answer.

There are many other political reasons to be in the pits, but S. 773 should enrage everyone to march on Washington.

The Crucible:

I hate to see people used. I hate to see a free society lied to, served sugar candy and then abused even further. It is during the daily crucible of fighting against all the political lies, that I wish for the use of a magic political wand. Just once.

But that is fantasy and I use it only to take a breath and then move on with the time consuming hard work of being an active citizen.

I sometimes sit at my computer, lean back, as I just did, and wonder what “event” or level of rights taken, will spur the general population into being consistently active citizens.

It is further fantasy for anyone to think that we all can be informed and fight against all bad political things all the time. No one person can do that. You stay reasonably well informed and educated on everything going on, and then pick a few issues that will garnish the majority of your passions and warrant the proper amount of time.

It is a singular journey, that we all must travel. What things matter to us, that we are willing to say in loud voice “Don't tread on me.”

All these tea parties and heavily attended town halls across America, is a good start. As more of us start to see and realize the full level of socialism being pushed on us. I'm confident the number of enraged citizens will grow, for that remains the crucible of a free society, citizens standing up and saying don't tread on me.
