“Words from the Several States” The Movement, part 010C
“Land of Opportunity” verses “Opportunist”
I have stayed away from doing general opinion pieces on racism in America for several reasons:
A. This newsletter focuses on Economics, fiat money and the politics thereof.
B. There are plenty of columnists, racists, opportunists and general haters in this nation already shouting their heads off about racism, 24 hours a day. I don't have anything in common with those people so I like to stay away from their close minded hatred for people and America in general. They add nothing to constructive dialog and are, in my opinion, a negative factor on society's ability to evolve.
-
I am an “American.” I am not a white-American or a Polish-American, I am just an American. Yet I get the sense that most people still want to categorize me as some kind of American. To this end, I feel anything I may offer up on racism, no matter how sincere or thoughtful, will be dismissed outright because “I couldn't possibly understand.”
I can't stand “Opportunists” of any kind. The ones out there that use skin color, a handicap, sexual orientation, etc., to get special treatment and media coverage. These people add no value to society. They serve only to stir up general populist emotions, grab some air time and promote a cause, only to serve their needs. Politicians do it all the time. I would say people like President Obama, David Axelrod, Carl Rove, Vernon Jordan, Clark Clifford, Secretary Clinton, Rev. Jessie Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, etc. They are all examples of opportunists, who believe only in the “next big thing” that can further their careers, crush an opponent or help them consolidate more power.
Opportunists punctuate for me, how America is sliding down into two classes of people, the super insulated establishment and “regular folk.”
The four most recent examples of opportunists of the super insulated establishment.
-
David Axelrod. I guarantee you, he was the genius behind telling President Obama to go on TV and make a brief announcement as the Iranian elections were only six hours old. Axelrod saw an opportunity for the President to score some political points off an election that could be spun to include Obama's Cairo speech.
-
Rev. Al Sharpton and Rev. Jessie Jackson both have made careers out of being opportunists. Literally, the last 15 years for Jackson have been his bouncing from headline to headline, hot button issue to hot button issue. Micheal Jackson dies and there they are, “spokesmen” for the Jackson family. Disgusting.

President Obama, using a local news piece as a “teachable moment” on racism. I blame his staff equally on this one, for allowing the question and further allowing the President to diminish the office by opening his mouth.
A “teachable moment”, right? President Obama said it like he had some kind of grasp on the human condition, some deeper soulful understanding of the essence of life that was far beyond us regular folk to comprehend. As if we needed him, and only him, to guide us through the troubling times and turmoil of a Harvard professor's four hours at the police station.
I think Professor Gates wanted to be arrested, because his friend is the president and that is worthy of national media spotlight. I think professor Gates is tired of always being in the huge shadow cast by Cornell West, who always gets the CNN invite.
The police didn't act stupidly and a beer at the White House will do nothing towards race relations.
I single out President Obama's transgression over the other three because he is the man in the Oval office.
Perhaps I have just been more fortunate than the President. I was lucky to grow up with a very loving father, who taught me that we are all Americans first, last and always. We can celebrate and revel in our ethnic heritage and truly accept each other on the spirit in our words, deeds and thoughts. To love one another as brothers and sisters in the light and truth of Jesus Christ and to reject anything less than this, for our own edification.
Then I realize that President Obama grew up with a huge number of people sacrificing so that he could have many opportunities. And why not? This is the Land of Opportunity.
That answer two Wednesday's ago and three news cycles later, him throwing his good friend under the bus. It solidifies what I have known since the summer of 2004, Obama is an opportunist who cares very little for the Nation that gave him endless opportunities.
I think this nation has endless decades of work, before our mindset evolves beyond racism and finger pointing.
At the end of the day, on a intellectual and philosophical level, I pity President Obama and can only pray for his soul. For he has gained the Oval office, but cannot see beyond the next opportunity to promote his Liberal Elitist theory and tap his desk, expecting our obedience for his next teachable moment.
